MEEANJIN MARKETS - APRIL 2018
Blaklash Projects were the creative producers and event managers of the Meeanjin Markets. We work with South East Queensland Indigenous Chamber of Commerce (SEQICC) to create and deliver a 2-day artisan market and cultural festival.

WEAVING WATER STORIES
Blaklash were the Project Managers for the large-scale woven installation that was on display at Gold Coast's Festival 2018 and at Brisbane's Flowstate.

ORIGIN LANGUAGE PROJECT
Blaklash assisted Origin in connecting with the local Aboriginal community to embed Aboriginal language into the design of the new Origin headquarters at 180 Ann St, Brisbane.
ORIGIN’S PURPOSE
Origin people come together (mandana)
to share ideas and knowledge through dialogue (mirrumbun) in order to create and build solutions (dhurn bunnu), working to get energy right for our customers, community and planet.

LENDLEASE NAIDOC PROJECT
Blaklash Projects were approached by Lendlease to develop a Naidoc artwork that could engage the staff and community at Bowen Hills.
We worked with artist Casey Coolwell to create an interactive activity that prompt contributors to think about the Naidoc theme "Because of her, we can", and add a fingerprint to a bright and beautiful collaborative artwork to be displayed in the Lendlease offices.

RICHARD BELL'S EMBASSY
Blaklash was excited to program the provocative installation - Embassy. This thought-provoking space pays homage to the Aboriginal Tent Embassy – the world’s longest running protest. We held 3 days of films, presentations and conversations during Festival 2018.

SEE MY STORY
Blaklash assisted the Department of Justice in the curation of See My Story. The exhibition presented a special collection of artworks produced by young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists who have been associated with the Youth Justice system and spent time at the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre or Cleveland Youth Detention Centre in Townsville. It was held at QPAC

LITTLE YAWAR
QPAC engaged Blaklash Projects to plan and deliver elements of Little Yawar at Out of the Box children's festival. Yawar means "a coming together of clans", and this was a family-friendly program of cultural dancing, singing, storytelling and weaving.

BLAK CURATORIAL EXCHANGE
The National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA) is the national peak body for visual arts. NAVA partnered with Blaklash to create and deliver a six-week professional development program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists who are interested in developing their curatorial skills. This program is the first of its kind in Queensland and aims to strengthen the sector by enhancing knowledge and support networks.

SINGLE FILE
A temporary artwork in the Brisbane River by Warraba Weatherall. The artwork comments on the role of the archive, in documenting, storing information about Aboriginal people and western interpretations of the materials, which attempt to render Indigenous cultures as ‘knowable’ and ‘possessable’.
This artwork was a part of Co-MMotion, Brisbane City Council’s 2018 Temporary Art Program, produced by people+artist+place and Blaklash Projects.

2019 PROJECTS
Brisbane City Council Indigenous Art Program
Shared Connections is the Indigenous Art Program 2019 exhibition. From 1 May to 31 July 2019, contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artworks were found through Brisbane's Central Business District as part of the Indigenous Art Program. Artworks were complemented with a public program of artist talks, panel discussions and guided walking tours.

TOMORROWS TRADITIONS

Curated by Blaklash Projects at QPAC, Tomorrow’s Traditions showcases the evolution of Aboriginal song and dance in South East Queensland. It celebrates the vibrancy and diversity of storytelling through this art form by exploring movement, language, body paint, instruments, and cultural exchange.

Saltwater Freshwater Art Award

Amanda had the opportunity to judge the Mid-North Coast of New South Wales region's premier Aboriginal Art Prize. The subsequent exhibition will see contemporary Aboriginal artwork and cultural objects from some of the leading artists and designers travel to four galleries within the region.

Brisbane City Council Buses

Brisbane City Council has four buses featuring the works of two Brisbane-based Indigenous artists, Rachael Sarra and Casey Coolwell, on four buses travelling throughout the city. The bus designs aim to increase pride and foster an innovative and creative community.

RASN First Nations Forum

Creative Alliance engaged Blaklash Projects to deliver a 3-day residential gathering of First Nations arts professionals to collaboratively develop a new plan for regional arts and culture for the South East Queensland North Region (SEQN) which encompasses the local government areas of Gympie, Noosa, Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay, Redlands and Somerset.

Connecting with Local Stories

Elisa Jane Carmichael : Evening Lights
​
Evening Lights were projections that explored dusk and the element of fire. The artwork had an exhibition and spoken-word poetry sessions. Presented as a part of Brisbane City Council's Temporary Art Program 2019, this project has been produced by Metro Arts and people+artist+place, curated by Blaklash Projects and made possible through the support of Lendlease and Gilimbaa.

Floating Lands
​
Blaklash Projects worked with Noosa Art Gallery and Creative Alliance to organise First Nations community painting workshops for Brook Andrew's Travelling Colony project for Floating Lands festival 2019. The caravans were activated during the festival by sound works, talks and a special performance by Digi Youth Arts.

Open Homes

La Boite Theatre presents Opne Homes by Jeffery Tan.
This project gave strangers the opportunity to go inside the homes of Troy Casey and Amanda Hayman of Blaklash Projects and gain insights into the life of a young couple living in inner-city Brisbane, with an extremely busy business-focused lifestyle whilst maintaining their cultural identity.

Logan Family Fun Day
